Apple temporarily suspends gambling ads in the App Store
All users everywhere are aware of the “similar to” or “you may like” tab when we are on an app or add-on page. This is done specifically to make it easier for many people to find certain apps, promote other apps, and so on.
Therefore, this tab is very important for those who use an Apple developer account. After all, sometimes it’s through the words “you might like” that people find products from developers with Apple Developer accounts.
However, at some point, users and developers began to notice that the “You may like” sign ceased to fulfill its function, and instead of promoting similar applications and innovations, it began to show ads for online gambling and casinos.
This was especially true for the community within the Apple Developer Enterprise Program. Of course, the developers did not remain silent and tolerate, and almost immediately began to receive complaints and emails about the problem. Many Apple developer account holders have even started taking screenshots and posting them on Twitter, writing aggressive messages and so on.
Even the younger audience suffered: advertisements and offers of gambling and casinos appeared even on pages with children’s applications. In the Apple Books section, users began to see more ads for adult video chats.
Apple temporarily halts gambling ads in the App Store
Of course, after the stormy emotions of many users and owners of Apple Developer Accounts, the company had to act somehow. So Apple has announced that it is pausing – yes, not pausing, but “suspending” – these ads. The announcement reads: “We have stopped displaying ads related to gambling and certain other categories on App Store product pages.”
But if you think about it, no one has ever hidden that it is very profitable to work with gambling and casinos on the Internet, and that you don’t need to do anything special for this, you just need to advertise and place as many of their ads as possible. Thus, Apple has also tried to help itself and gambling-related platforms and services.
However, if you look at the App Store policies, you will see that the placement and promotion of ads related to gambling, alcohol, drugs, drugs, dating, etc. is limited. However, since it is limited, it means that there are options and rules to allow such ads. However, such restrictions and rules are mainly related to the laws and legal regulation of information that can be posted on the online platform.
The decision that Apple has to offer regarding the way forward could fundamentally change the economy and politics of the iPhone. It was even rumored that they would try to promote ads not only on their App Store service, but also on other platforms and networks such as Maps, Podcasts and Books. You can even assume that they will use the approach taken by Google. Apple always claims that their platforms have been, and will continue to be, among the safest places to use apps, download software, read, and more, but unfortunately, as we can see, there is still work to be done in this area.
